Who reads your CV?

Many of us never think twice when submitting our CV for a job vacancy, we simply find its location, attach it, and send it all in the hope that we will get a reply offering us an interview and  hope of a career move.  But before you press send do you ever think about who is going to read the information on your CV?

Maybe if you did, you would then consider what information you have shared.  Way back in 2008 a company called Iprofile.org and the Metropolitan Police carried out several experiments and what they discovered was that people were openly sharing way too much personal information on their CV that simply was not necessary and over 50% of CV’s provided enough information for an identity thief to steal their identity.

Over a decade later and we are still seeing the same mistakes on CV’s with people adding their date of birth, even though the Age Discrimination law says that we no longer should along with openly sharing their full name address and telephone numbers.  In some cases, people are not only sharing their details but also those of their references.

Identity theft is one of the world’s fastest growing crimes and the effect that identity theft has on a person can be traumatising, financially, physically, and emotionally and can be one of the most devastating events in a person’s life. It disrupts all aspects of their life, especially those related to finances, and it is frustrating, confusing, and time-consuming and the effects of identity theft can last for decades.   In some extreme cases, it has been the sole reason that people have declared bankruptcy.

So, what does you Curriculum Vitae tell an Identity thief about you?  When was the last time you checked the information contained within your cv and do you even know what information you should and should not include when writing your CV?

JobApp takes a different approach to any other job searching app, we never store or save your personal information online and so your identity and personal information is never at risk.  When you submit your CV JobApp removes any of your personal information from your cv that it feels unnecessary when making an initial application for a job vacancy, before submitting it for you, leaving just your first name, town, and telephone number.

JobApp is hoping to launch in May/June 2021, in the meantime if you would like to know what information you should and shouldn’t include on your CV then feel free to download our information booklet on writing your CV.
